Court declare Nawaz absconder, Indict Asif Zardari and Yousuf Gilani in Tosha Khana Reference


ISLAMABAD: The Accountability Court (AC) has indicted Asif Ali Zardari and Yousuf Raza Gilani in the Tosha Khana reference, while former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was declared a fugitive and issued permanent arrest warrants for his persistent absence.

The Islamabad Accountability Court heard on mega money laundering, Park Lane and Tosha Khana references. Former President Asif Ali Zardari appeared with his sister Faryal Talpur and daughter Asifa Bhutto. Former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and other accused also attended.

During the hearing of the Tosha Khana reference, the judge said that first the case of Nawaz Sharif will be separated and then the other accused will be indicted. The court indicted Asif Ali Zardari, Yousuf Raza Gilani, Abdul Ghani Majeed and Anwar Majeed. The accused pleaded not guilty, on which evidence was sought from the NAB.

The court declared former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif a fugitive for his persistent absence and issued permanent arrest warrants against him. The apex judge remarked that details of Nawaz Sharif’s movable and immovable property should be submitted within 7 days. The property will be frozen in the absence of the former prime minister.

During the hearing, former Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani came to the rostrum and said that he had never acted against the rules. Approved the summary in accordance with the law. The NAB made the reference without looking at the Rules of Business. The judge said that you should say these things during the trial. We are not talking about the merits of the case yet, how the summary came and was approved.

The court summoned three NAB witnesses in the Toshakhana reference and adjourned the hearing till September 24. In mega money laundering and Park Lane references, the court adjourned the case against Asif Zardari till September 17. The former president also sought acquittal by deleting the mega money laundering supplementary reference.
